Currency Audio is an improvisational performance project by rudimental percussionist, producer, electronic music composer, DJ, and computer programmer Rajeev Maddela. He specializes in applying the unique rhythmic phrasing found in bass-forward electronic music to explore jungle, IDM, UK garage, dubstep and their various offshoots. It aims to navigate these genres via Ableton Live, Max/MSP and MIDI percussion triggers to bring a refreshingly human approach to electronic music composition.
Signed to dBridge’s Exit Records UK, his recent ‘Humanism’ EP was released to critical acclaim, having been featured on Resident Advisor’s ‘Single of the Day’ and Bandcamp’s ‘Best Electronic Music’ August Roundup. Fully improvised without a click or backing tracks, his Currency Audio project aims to highlight the expressive qualities of natural time and increased dynamics, as well as a deep obsession with late 90’s breakbeat music. He has collaborated with: Jason Lindner, Takuya Nakumura, BigYuki, Homemade Weapons, Priya Darshini, Karsh Kale, Suphala, Anoushka Shankar, Tim Lefebvre, Jonathan Maron, Max ZT, and many others from the live electronic music scene.
